ProjectArt

Creating opportunity through art

Inspiring minds, transforming spaces: projectart creates educational & cultural magic in public libraries nationwide.

Mission

To change the way the world sees arts education.

projectart empowers youth, artists and communities by providing visual arts classes and artist residencies in public libraries.

4 million U.S. children have no sustained access to art classes at school. Low-income students highly engaged in the arts are 3X as likely to graduate college as their peers with no arts education. The arts are recognized as a core academic subject under the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act yet as of 2020, only 19 states include arts as a key area of their state accountability system.

FEATURED STUDENT

Paula Persiani

Brooklyn Brentzel

Brooklyn is a student at our Carnegie Libraries’ Allegheny Branch location in Pittsburgh. Among other projects, Brooklyn explored the core principles of the Bauhaus Movement by utilizing pencils, markers, and clay, to craft a 2D to 3D visual summary of the children’s book entitled “Bow Wow Haus.”

FEATURED TEACHER

Pangea Kali Virga

Our Miami Resident Artist, Pangea, created a body of work that celebrates art history, poetry, and folk craft. It is a quilt diptych, with lavishly embroidered illustrations, that meditate on one’s past and present, the natural world, tarot, and the practice of art as meditation and medicine. A corresponding process book accompanies the piece with exploratory text, source images and materials, theory, and process work.

This series was exhibited by ProjectArt at the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami.
